Qualifications

All requirements must be met before graduation. Applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Be over 18 years of age
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Be able to read, write, and speak English well and intelligently
  • Possess a clean and valid New Jersey driver's license
  • Be of good moral character with no criminal convictions involving moral turpitude
  • Be a resident of Edison or live within 5 miles of the Edison border
  • Ability to pass a medical examination for physical fitness

Academy Training

All recruits undergo 3 months of training at the Middlesex County Auxiliary Police Academy in Edison, NJ. The academy runs once a year, beginning in February and ending in May. Classes run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM, plus select Saturdays from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Attendance is mandatory.
